Our Pups

HIGH PRAIRIE Canines

Starting Our Pups Right From Day One

Here at High Prairie Canines, we believe that raising puppies into well-adjusted, easy to train adults is only about 35% attributed to the parents selected. Because of this belief, our breeding stock is not selected because of letters attached to the front or back of their names. They are selected for genetics regarding their overall health and the personality characteristics they possess including trainability, natural intelligence and adaptability to new situations.
Our pups are raised using early neurological stimulation (ENS) exercises to capitalize on their first few weeks of life. These exercises implemented from age three days to sixteen days has proven to produce pups with the following qualities superior to pups raised without ENS –

Improved cardiovascular performance (heart rate)
Stronger heart beats
Stronger adrenal glands
More tolerance to stress
Greater resistance to disease

From four weeks to the time they go home we implement several enrichment exercises daily for each of our puppies including exposure to sounds, textures, water, wings/feathers, temperatures and obstacles/toys. We enjoy watching our pups learn to problem solve, work through frustration, and learn to deal with separation anxiety in a positive controlled environment. With our program, you are assured that you are going home with a puppy that will already have a natural built-in response to deal with stress and respond positively to new environments/training concepts because of ENS. They will also be physiologically and psychologically set up to succeed in any situation you put them in. Whether you are looking for your next athlete or a loyal hunting/family companion, High Prairie is breeding what you want.

In an article published by Carmen L Battaglia on Building Better Breeders, she stated that “Both experience and research have dominated the beneficial effects that can be achieved via early neurological stimulation, socialization and enrichment experiences. Each has been used to improve performance and to explain the differences that occur between individuals, their trainability, health and potential. The cumulative effects of the three stages have been well documented. They best serve the interests of owners who seek high levels of performance when properly used. Each has a cumulative effect and contributes to the development and the potential for individual performance.

We believe strongly in our breeding program and look forward to helping develop your pup into a strong performer as well as a healthy, well-adjusted adult companion for years to come!
